Several of the plays produced through Voices Inside have won national playwriting competitions. This is the third consecutive year of a collaboration between Voices Inside and the Apprentice/Intern Company.
Voices Inside is a program that teaches theatre arts and uses creative thinking to establish compassion, trust, literacy, and communication in the lives of those who are closed off behind bars. This program has been proven to help those who participate reintegrate into society and also promotes positive self-expression. |
Every year, Actors Education department receives over 500 submissions of ten-minute plays written by middle and high school students in Kentucky and the 812 area code of southern Indiana, some of which were written in New Voices Residencies, Actors Education’s flagship program that teaches the art of ten-minute playwriting. The eight winning playwrights this year were chosen from a record breaking 586 entries, the most plays Actors Education has ever received! Each winning playwright works with a director and dramaturg to shape their piece for production, and their plays are published in the New Voices Young Playwrights Anthology.
